Join a knowledgeable local guide for a stravaig* through the unique and beautiful harbour town of Stromness and enjoy the experience of being a temporary local.
This relaxed three-hour walk explores the flagstone streets and hidden corners of Stromness. Along the way, your guide will share stories of the town’s rich maritime heritage, point out historic landmarks, introduce local shops and eateries, and reveal some of the best viewpoints across the harbour.
The experience also includes curated visits to two of Stromness’ cultural treasures: Stromness Museum and the Pier Arts Centre. These visits bring to life the heritage, creativity and character that make the town such a distinctive place.
Founded in 1837, Stromness Museum is one of the oldest independent museums in the UK. Its remarkable collections of maritime history, natural history and ethnography tell the stories of Stromness, its people and its deep connections to the sea.
The Pier Arts Centre, Orkney’s award-winning arts venue, houses an internationally significant collection of 20th and 21st century British modern art, alongside a changing programme of exhibitions by local, national and international artists.

Each half-day Stromness Stroll begins at the Ferry Terminal and leads you through the historic flagstone streets of Stromness. Along the route, the experience includes curated 45-minute visits to both the Pier Arts Centre and Stromness Museum, where expert guides bring to life the art, heritage and maritime stories that shape this remarkable harbour town.
