' Stromness is a town that has a history of international connections. It now stands on the threshold of global opportunities '
James Stockan, Councillor
"We belong to a culture which talks of winter, spring, summer and autumn, but in fact none of these seasons is clear-cut in Orkney"
~ Ronald Miller
Like the rest of Orkney, the weather in Stromness benefits from the Gulf Stream - average temperatures fluctuate by less than 10 degrees from summer to winter, and rarely drop below freezing. The wind is the most notable feature - and while it can be windy at any time of year, it tends to be calmer in May, June and July.
Stromness weather isnít predictable - you can have a glorious sunny day in winter; or a wet and windy day in summer - and you may have both in one day! So, be prepared and look for indoor and outdoor options to make the most of your time here.
