' Stromness is a town that has a history of international connections. It now stands on the threshold of global opportunities '
James Stockan, Councillor
For a small town, Stromness supports a good range of eateries - from the renowned seafood restaurant The Hamnavoe to the more informal Julia’s Cafe & Bistro on the seafront or the Cafe at the Pier Head for a lighter bite. Food is served at the town’s main hotels. You can also get a take-away coffee at The Bayleaf Delicatessen.

The Stromness Fishermen's Association was established in 1952 to help local fishermen secure a good price for their catch. The co-operative still thrives today as Orkney Fishermen's Society. They are the foremost processors of brown crab in the UK.
